For this popular scout SWAPS you will need the following craft supplies: pom-poms, green felt, a needle and green thread, tacky craft glue, a green chenille stem, thin wire and seed beads, and oven bake clay.
First roll out the eyes of the caterpillar using oven bake clay. Follow the instructions on the package for baking.
Then use tacky white glue to attach the pom-poms together for the caterpillar's body. I used many bright colors for this but you can make your caterpillar any color you like: use all the same color or make up your own pattern with two colors. I let the pom-pom creature dry overnight before continuing with the rest of the craft.
Take a fine wire and clip it into one piece approximately 1" long. Then fold it in half and glue on tiny beads to each end. Use the tacky glue to fix these tiny antenna in place on top of the caterpillar's head. Glue the clay eyeballs in place and take a permanent marker to add tiny black pupils to the eyballs.
Cut green leaves from felt for the bug to rest on. I also cut a chenille stem to glue between the two leaves to give this insect inspired SWAPS more support. Now you can glue the caterpillar directly on top of the felt leaf at last.
