The Dachshund Paper Doll Dog

"The dachshund is a dog everybody recognizes."
Here is Trudy and her pet dachshund called "Pooky." He is a lovable companion for both grownups and children. Sometimes he wears a sweater made for him by his owner on cold winter days."

THE DACHSHUND

"The Dachshund breed was first developed for running the badger to ground. Later the smaller sizes were used for hunting foxes, tracking wounded deer, and chasing stoat and hare, the miniatures being useful for bolting rabbits. Types ranging all the way from 5 to 35 pounds are recognized in Germany, but the medium-sized Dachshund is the most popular in the United States.
Three types of coat are recognized: the smooth-haired, with a short glossy coat; the wire-haired, with a harsh outer coat and a soft undercoat (similar to some of the terrier breeds); the long-haired, resembling a spaniel or setter, with a long plumed tail, silky ears, and feathered legs. The coloring of the coat is any one of the red or tan shades, or black and tan. All Dachshunds are short-legged, long-bodied, sturdy, well-muscled. Their carriage is audacious and alert. Their temperament is affectionate, responsive, and playful. These little dogs are always eager to learn.'' Cook
