DIY Movie Theater Popcorn for Dolls

Far left, shapes cut from recycled paper egg carton. Center, decoupaged with white paper and stuffed
with cotton. Far right, finished theater popcorn boxes filled to overflowing with painted Styrofoam beads.
Our version of theater popcorn is crafted using a paper mache technique. This is primarily because once I make something, I don't like to remake it!
I will include links below to those crafters who provide a printable version of the craft for children to fold and assemble.
The crafted version here will hold up to more wear and tear, although it is possible for little ones to damage solid paper mache if they play with it in a destructive way. But packing these in a box with similar items will not cause them to fold or bend.
I added red stripes to the outside of my boxes
with a red permanent ink marker. This little popcorn
craft would make a nice replacement for Molly's
movie popcorn and also be fun to add to Our
Generation's Movie Theater.

Supply List:
  • egg carton (paper not foam)
  • white paper
  • white school glue
  • white cotton balls
  • permanent red marking pens (Sharpie, fine tip)
  • tiny Styrofoam balls
  • pale yellow acrylic paint
  • tacky white glue
  • Xacto knife (optional)
Step-by-Step Directions:
  1. Cut the form for the popcorn box from a recycled paper egg carton. You may need to use an Xacto knife for this if your scissors are too dull. Trim off the edges till these are even on all sides.
  2. Layer white school glue and with paper on the outside, inside and over the edges of the miniature container. Let this dry.
  3. Stuff a wade of cotton down inside the cavity of the popcorn box.
  4. Squeeze tacky white glue on top of the cotton filler and press the tiny Styrofoam beads into it. Let the first layer dry and the repeat until the inside of the container is generously mounded up into a popcorn heap.
  5. Use the permanent red marking pens to draw red stripes around the outsides of the containers.
  6. Dab on a bit of pale yellow paint on top of the faux popcorn to look like butter.
  7. Mod Podge the entire surfaces of the theater popcorn boxes if you desire.
  8. Now your dolls can have their very own popcorn treats to eat while watching a movie with you!

Soft Braided Pretzel SWAPS

Turn a pretzel upside down to see a monk in prayer.

These soft braided pretzels are easy to make if you already have a small length of braided twine or yarn. Below you can see how I made my connections with just a bit of sewing, but you could also hot glue the braid into the shapes as well. After you have done this, simply paint the pretzel shapes with a nice warm brown color. Let the paint dry and then apply transparent glitter with tacky glue to mimic salt.
The twine is shaped into pretzels or brezel as they say in
Germany where these tasty breads were invented!

Printable Candy Bar Wrappers by kathy grimm

Candy bar wrappers by kathy grimm. Free for little ones to print,
cut and paste for their doll's treats.
Now your dolls can have doll sized candy bars in their lunch boxes, at their parties or even to hand out during a trick-or-treating scenario.  Print a nice supply of candy bar wrappers from below. Assemble them using cut cardboard (or brown colored foam sheets) and kitchen foil. You will need a bit of white school glue and scissors too.
Put a little glue onto the dull side of your tin foil sheets before wrapping these around the cardboard shaped candy bars. Then add a small amount of glue to the back side of the candy bars before folding the candy wrappers around the faux chocolate bars. Then seal the surfaces with Mod Podge to give them some durability for play.

Left, print and cut the wrapper logos out. Center, cut cardboard candy bar shapes.
Right, cut tin foil to wrap around the candy bars before gluing the wrappers around the cardboard.
Kit wants to make sure the candy is good before serving it to her doll friends this
Halloween! Her rainbow fairy costume is an altered Build-A-Bear design.

A Treat for the Wee Folk

Our woods are very dark at night-
I dare not in them play,
Although I know most every tree
And every flower by day.

But Hallowe'en I go quite near
And scatter candy sweets.
So, when the elves and fairies come
They all will find a treat.
