The 10 Commandments, Are The Laws of Love!

Moses and The 10 Commandments.
       "If the love of God is shed abroad in your heart," says Reverend Moody, "you will be able to fulfill the law."

       Paul reduces the commandments to one: "Thou shalt love," and says that "love is the fulfilling of the law." This truth is demonstrated thus: (scriptures from The Blue Letter Bible)

       The 10 Commandments are given to us in order to illuminate where and how and why we have failed to keep the laws of love. Jesus keeps law perfectly on the behalf of the believer. However, we are able to keep some of the law sometimes. Jesus says that this we do out of love for him.

1. Love to God will admit no other god. (Faith and Loyalty.)
  • And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6
  • Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me." Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" Matthew 4: 8-10
2. Love will not debase the object it adores. (Worship.)
  • But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath. “Tell them this: ‘These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.’ ” But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding. Jeremiah 10:10-12
  • Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him. But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell. They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them. Psalm 115: 3-8
  • Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.” Revelation 14:6,7
3. Love to God will never dishonor His name. (Reverence.)
  • He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever— holy and awesome is his name. Psalm 111: 9
  • In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him. Psalm 89: 7
  • Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, Hebrews 12: 28
  • Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” 2 Timothy 2: 19
4. Love to God will reverence His day. (Holiness, or sanctification, and consecration.)
  • But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:15, 16
  • Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14
  • “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Exodus 31:13
  • Also I gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between us, so they would know that I the LORD made them holy. Ezekiel 20:12
  • It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 1 Corinthians 1: 30
  • in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:6
5. Love to parents will honor them. (Obedience, or respect for authority.)
  • Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-3
  • Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Colossians 3: 20
  • From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. 2 Kings 2:23, 24  (More about this event, folks.)
6. Hate, not love, is a murderer. (Love.)
  • “ ‘Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt. Leviticus 19:17
  • Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. 1 John 3:15
  • “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny. Matthew 5: 21-26
  • “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5: 43-48
7. Lust, not love, commits adultery. (Purity.)
  • Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matthew 5: 8
  • But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. Ephesians 5: 3,4
  • Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. Colossians 3:5,6
  • Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure. 1 Timothy 5:22
  • Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 1 Peter 2:11
8. Love will give, but never steal. (Honesty.)
  • Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. Romans 12:17
  • Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. Ephesians 4:28
  • For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. 2 Thessalonians 3: 10-12
9. Love will not slander nor lie. (Truthfulness.)
  • Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. Ephesians 4:25
  • Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices Colossians 3: 9
  • There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. Proverbs 6: 16-19
  • Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Revelation 21:27
  • Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. Revelation 22: 15
10. Love's eye is not covetous. (Contentment and unselfishness.)
  • For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Ephesians 5:5
  • Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:5
  • But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.1 Timothy 6: 6-11
  • Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. Hebrews 13:5

The Golden Rule was given by Jesus in The Sermon On The Mount: Ask, Seek, Knock Matthew 7: 7-14 and Luke 11: 9-13

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 7: 7-14

Short Catechism About The Lord's Prayer

The Lord's Prayer in Brief by Benjamin Kutz - Abridged Version

1. What is prayer? Prayer is the converse of the heart with God; or an appeal to him to bestow blessings, or to avert evils. In the Lord's prayer we call on him, first, to confer some good, and second, to turn away some evil. David represents it as "the words of his mouth and the meditation of his heart." Psalm 19:14. It may be more fully defined as, a heart-felt address to the Supreme Being, consisting of adoration, confession of sin, supplication for pardon and blessings in conformity to the divine will, intercession, and thanksgiving. It may, however, consist of a single petition, be extemporaneous, written, or printed.

2. What is meant by family worship? The collecting together of the members of a family at stated periods, for divine worship.

3. How is the Lord's Prayer to be regarded in relationship to this subject? This model of prayer was evidently designed to teach us when and where, as well as for what, to pray. Its very structure plainly indicates that it is to be used daily, and in a family That it was designed to be a daily supplication, is evident from the fourth petition: give us this day our daily bread. That it was intended as a family prayer or a model of one, is no less clear from the general phraseology. It is not worded, my Father, but our Father who art in heaven; not give me, but give us; not forgive me, but forgive us; not lead me, but us not into temptation, etc.

4. Is family prayer alluded to in the Scriptures? Yes; frequently, and always as something with which God is pleased, while the neglect of it has provoked the expression of his abhorrence. In proof of this we refer the reader to:

"But God said, "No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him." Genesis 17:19 (NASB)

"If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." Joshua 24:15

"When the days of feasting had completed their cycle, Job would send and consecrate them, rising up early in the morning and offering burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, "Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." Thus Job did continually." Job 1:5

These facts are all recorded to the praise of the individuals named, and in every instance God manifested his approbation. But God's indignation at the neglect of this duty is as strongly declared as his approval of its performance.

"Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not know You And on the families that do not call Your name; For they have devoured Jacob; They have devoured him and consumed him And have laid waste his habitation." Jeremiah 10:25

       It is a solemn and a fearful fact, that those families that call not on God, are here numbered among the Heathen who know not God!

The Lord's Prayer In Verse for Children

Our Father God, who art in heaven,
To thy great name be reverence given;
Thy peaceful kingdom wide extend,
And reign, O Lord! till time shall end.

Thy sacred will on earth be done,
As it is by angels round the throne;
And let us every day be fed
With earthly and with heavenly bread.

Our sins forgive, and teach us thus
To pardon those who injure us:
Our shield in all temptations prove,
And every evil far remove.

Thine is the kingdom to control,
And thine the power to save the soul;
Great be the glory of thy name,

General Prayers For Little Children

First Prayer
Though, dearest Lord, you dwell on high,
You hear all children when they cry;
Then view me with a smiling face,
And ever guide me by your grace.

For Jesus' sake my sins forgive,
And for your glory may I live;
O make me lowly, pure in heart,
Then take me home where you are. Amen.

Second Prayer
My Savior, who is meek and mild,
Look down and see a little child,
Obedient at your footstool stay,
And help me by your grace to pray.

Teach me to understand your word,
And wash me in your precious blood.
A faithful lamb I want would be;
Assist me, Lord, to look to thee. Amen.

Third Prayer
Lord, look upon a little child,
By nature sinful, rude and wild;
Oh! let your grace descend on me,
And make me all I ought to be.

Make me your child, a child of God,
Washed in the Savior's precious blood,
And my whole heart set free from sin,
A little vessel full of Christ within;

A star of early dawn and bright,
Shining within your sacred light;
A beam of grace to all around,
A little spot of hallowed ground.

Dear Savior, take me to your breast,
And bless me that I may be blest;
Both when I wake, and when I sleep,
Your little lamb in safety keep. Amen.
