Newsprint Cinnamon Buns

Finished newsprint cinnamon buns on top of our doll's kitchen stove.
Newsprint is easy to work with but not every American household has it anymore in their recycling bin. In this new age of technology, newspapers seem to be a definitive thing of the past. Our news comes to us via the internet, cell phone, or television. But I remember the newspaper tossed from a van at 5:00 every morning, come rain or shine!
Freshly printed, there's nothing like opening a newspaper to skim over the headlines while you sip the first cup of the day. (coffee) My mother used to reserve the Sunday paper for quite time after church every weekend. She read it in her dressing robe and house slippers after changing from her Sunday Best. Yes, we would dress up to go to church, in suits, ties, skirts and heels! In my Grandmother's day, the men and women would even wear hats.
What a treat a warm tray of cinnamon buns would be if you had them after the service! But these were something more frequently prepared by my Grandmother on a Sunday morning.
Now your dolls can serve their very own cinnamon buns whenever they like, Sunday morning, Saturday evening or even on a weekday. This craft is so easy that I'm sure you will be tempted to make a set for your friends too. Save your recycled fish tins from the bin; wash them thoroughly to remove any odors, and gather the following supplies to craft these sweet treats in under an hour.

Supply List:
  • newsprint
  • masking tape
  • white school glue
  • acrylic paints - brown, yellow white
  • recycled fish tin
  • white puff paint
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1.  Cut, fold and roll newsprint pages until you've made the cinnamon buns the size you prefer. Use a bit of masking tape to hod the rolled paper in the correct shape.
  2. Then mask the entire cinnamon bun so that it holds it's shape. While you shape these insert and remove them into your recycled tin to make sure these will fit, as you craft.
  3. Paint the paper cinnamon buns with a solid golden brown acrylic paint. Then rub with your finger tips or a smaller brush the raised spiral patterns with a dark brown. This part is the cinnamon spice that would be rolled between the raw dough in a real recipe.
  4. Squeeze on a white puff paint across the tops only of your decoupaged buns to represent the icing. Let the paints dry and your ready to serve this cute delicious craft to your dolls.
