These three little lost British dolls came from the collections of Americans. They were damaged by insects. |
Sir Edward Seymour in 1911. Until 1956, Royal Navy officers in full-dress wore cocked hats. |
Norah Wellings made many fabric dolls dressed in British military uniforms. I purchased these three for small change because of their poor condition. I only had enough original materials to restore one of the dolls. So I chose to restore the Admiral, seen above left, because of his rarity. I will repair the remaining two but this will decrease their value.
By repair I mean to say that these two other dolls will need to be dressed with modern similar fabrics instead of using the velveteen of another doll made by Welling's own hands.
The dolls were not 'loved to death' by a child, they were wrecked by a moth's larvae. So it was restoration or repair for these little lost troops here in the midwest of America.
