Two pages of back-to-school fashions from Sears catalogue for Fall and Winter in 1956. One page is for older girls (teens) and the other for younger 3rd through 6th grade. See the real Fall fashions from the late 1950s when teens wore wool plaid skirts and fashionable solid colored "kitten-soft" Orlon sweaters to school everyday. There are also winter weather jumpers with flouncy skirts.
See below the school girl fashions for the 1950s, when fashionable felt skirts and corduroy rackets were the most popular clothes for young students to wear back-to-school in the Fall. In 2021 children start school much earlier in August. In the 1950s no child would expect such a schedule! School started promptly in September, and the weather was chilly. Now it remains hot up until the end of September.
Notice also how dark colors were preferred for the jumpers. High collars and full gathered skirts were also ordinary fashion trends for American school children, especially in the Midwest.
