Bradley Boudoir dolls were made in Korea for display purposes only. These dolls were made in much the same way Ceremonial Korean Wedding dolls are made even today. The Korean wedding couple dolls have the same body types as the American styled dresser or boudoir dolls. The heads are large and so are the eyes. Traditional Korean bride dolls wear a hanbok, which is also a very ornate and feminine gown.
Characteristic Features of Bradley Dolls Made for The Western Market Included:
- The doll body and head are made using stockinette.
- Both the head and eyes are disproportionately large compared with the rest of the body.
- The designers of the Bradley boudoir dolls always gave great attention to small details and feminine fashions.
- The wigs on these dolls came styled and had attractive accessories, not intended for alteration.
- The dolls always had a stand if they were standing. If the doll was seated, it's limbs were made with wire inside to help the doll's figure conform to it's pose.
The Bradley Doll company was established in Los Angeles, CA in the early 1950s and acquired by Hasbro in 1984. The doll parts and manufacture happened overseas in both Korea and Japan. Although the fashions and hair styles were western, these dolls truely reflected Asian sensibilities and design.
