You will need the following supplies to make kerchief dolls: tape, thin cardstock or cardboard, Mod Podge, kerchiefs and the printable below or your own catalogue clippings.
Two 1955 models from a Sears catalogue for young students to craft with. Personal crafts only, please. |
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Cut out pictures of 1950s ladies either from a catalogue or your may print out those samples included above for home printers.
- Then back the clippings with cardstock or heavier cardboard. Make certain that you include the grey areas attached to the waists of these paper dolls. You may draw and cut larger skirts to attach the kerchiefs to. I made mine small because I intend to include these dolls inside of a scrapbook. (They also would look cut on cards!)
- After mounting the figures on to cardboard, brush on a final coat of Mod Podge and let the paper dolls dry.
- Now cut a very fine opening just where the belts meet the grey areas.
- After pressing the square shaped, vintage kerchiefs, fold these at the corners in the shape of triangles and press neatly.
- Take the center point between the longest side of the triangle fold and gently tuck it into the opening at the paper doll's waist.
- Turn the doll over and lightly tape the piece of kerchief poking through the hole to the backside of the doll.
- Now you many choose to mount the kerchief doll to a gift card or a scrapbook.
