How to make the doll's pussy willow for spring...

Faux pussy willow branches and tiny Easter
eggs hanging from the branches.

I made small faux pussy willow branches and miniature eggs to hang from these for our dollhouse this Easter. They are both delicate and beautiful!

Supply List:

  • Sculpey oven bake clay
  • pastel paints (acrylic)
  • thin wire for hanging eggs
  • a needle or pin for making holes
  • three or four cotton balls
  • a handful of twigs
  • twine
  • hot glue gun and glue
  • white school glue
  • a small garden pot
  • tiny pebbles or rocks

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Pick a handful of fresh green twigs from a shrub.
  2. Use hot glue to stick these together, only at the bottom of the bunch. No higher up than one inch. An adult will need to do this part of the craft.
  3. Glue twine around this lower end of the twig bunch to give it even more strength.
  4. Now hot glue this bundle inside of a small, miniature pot. These are easy to find in a dollar store or hobby shop.
  5. Fill up the remaining empty space of the pot with white school glue and small pebbles. Let the project dry overnight.
  6. Take several small cotton balls and unravel these.
  7. Using white glue on your finger tips, roll very small amounts of the cotton batting around the tips of the twigs to make the bundle look like pussy willow.
  8. Roll tiny bits of oven-bake clap between your palms to shape miniature eggs.
  9. Then using a needle or paper clip, make tiny holes, not too deep, into the tops of these eggs. Bake.
  10. After the eggs have cooled, paint them with pastel acrylic paints.
  11. Bend fine wire to make hooks for the eggs. Insert these inside of the holes of the faux eggs along with a small squeeze of white glue. Let these dry.
  12. Hang the tiny eggs about the faux pussy willow branches.
Left, the penny gives an idea of scale. The doll sized egg tree is hot glued inside of a tiny
garden pot. Right, very tiny, miniature eggs sculpted from oven-bake clay are hung on
the faux pussy willow branches. See also the cotton twisted on these branches to
make them look more like pussy willow.

Pussy Willow
by Ester Hull Doolittle

Oh, pretty Pussy Willow,
You soft and silky thing,
you dweller by the roadside,
And harbinger of Spring

When all the world is dreary,
And song birds do not sing,
When skies are gray and cloudy,
It's welcome news you bring!
