The Red-headed Woodpecker

Collect all pages-cleaned and sized to make
 a miniature book for your dolls.

 Assemble a mini doll sized book: just right, is the Wood Pecker's illustration and verse. Visitors can collect all the bird illustrations and verse from "Bird Children" to print and construct a small book of verse for their dolls. Simply drag each png. into a Word Document, print, cut out all of the images the same size and staple the pages together at the left edge. Squeeze out some white school glue along the stapled edge of the pages and attach a cardboard cover. 

"O Dear, dear me!" Wood-Pecker said,

"The birds all shout at me,"Redhead';

It makes me feel so very sad,

No wonder that my temper's bad!"

   Most children like to color the red hood on their paper Woodpecker doll. It is just as if they were making a red hood to cover his entire head, face and neck, leaving open places only for his eyes and beak.
    After young students have made their paper doll bird they will surely know the real Red-headed Woodpecker when they spy him. He will probably be clinging to the trunk of a tree, devouring the insects he finds there; or he may be on a telegraph pole. He is a quarrelsome, noisy fellow, but very pretty to look at.
   He builds his nest in holes in the trees; or if there is a hole in a fence-post, he may choose that for his nest.
   In May or June his nest will hold four or five glossy white eggs.
   He belongs to the family of Woodpeckers.
