A painted black cake stand with plastic dome made from in- expensive wine glasses from Dollar General. |
This craft can be a bit difficult to work with because of the plastic materials. However, through trial and error I managed to get at least one acceptable version of it after working with the hacksaw...
Supply List:
- one plastic wine glass with detachable stand (plastic wine glasses from Dollar General
- three beads in graduating sizes
- cording
- black paper
- hot glue gun and hot glue
- tin juice can lid
- black acrylic paint
- Mod Podge
- white school glue
- hacksaw (adult supervision needed here), Use the finest tooth blade possible...
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Cut the stem off of the plastic wine glass. These can be difficult to remove. An adult should use a hacksaw for this part of the process. Expect to break a few of these glasses before having a suitable one for the craft. It's a good thing that the plastic glasses come with many in a package from the Dollar Store!
- Attach the cut stem with hot glue into the opening of the base which comes separate from the cup.
- Use masking tape to cover the juice can lid on both the top and bottom of the lid. This will help the decoupaged paper or paint to stick properly to the surfaces when finishing these.
- Now hot glue the recycled tin juice lid to the top of the stem that has been glued into the base.
- Decorate the bottom of your pretend cake stand however you wish. I used black paper and black acrylic paints.
- Hot glue the three beads, one on top of the other, into the hole of the wine cup.
- Wind a cord about the lowest bead until all cracks are hidden.
- Paint the beads and cord black.
- Cover the painted and paper areas with Mod Podge.
- Now you have a nice dome cover for the doll cake stand!
An upcycled plastic wine glass and juice can lid are used to make this cute dessert craft. |
