| 18" doll-size version of the dress laundry bag including tiny clothes pins too! Sometimes this novelty bag is called and Amish clothespin bag. |
The laundry basket for your dolls may be acquired from any place like: thrift stores, dollar stores, garage sales etc... For the clothesline simply tie a strong cord between two chopsticks to hang your dollies laundry on the line in the sunshine outside.
You can make an old-time laundry bag similar to one my grandmother once had. It looks like a little dress hanging on the line to dry but it is actually a bag for holding clothespins. You will need fabric scraps, a needle and thread and a large paper clip for this craft.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- The pattern must be drafted from a perfect square of any size to suit your dolls.
- Cut the back and front, and stitch the shoulder seams.
- Cut the binding for the neck, sleeves, and lapel, and then stitch them in place. Do this by sewing them to the under side and bringing them forward.
- Turn the edge under and stitch.
- Turn the bag outside in.
- Cut a strip of alternate patterned fabric for the skirt.
- Gather the top and baste it to the front of the bag to look like a skirt.
- Add a narrow hem to the ruffled skirt at the bottom.
- Turn in the edges of the skirt and stitch these to the side seams using a whip stitch.
- Cut the belt and stitch it to cover the gathered, basted seams and then to the back of the bag leaving enough of the belt to tie into a bow.
- Unbend a large paper clip and then reshape it into a miniature hanger.
- Insert the hanger into the clothespin bag at the top to hang from the clothesline. Keep tiny clothespins inside of it.
