The Trade, School, and Diplomacy of Natives in Colonial Williamsburg

Natives at the encampent played a very visible role in Colonial Williamsburg as a matter of daily routine. The site for this historic encampents is at the corner of Botetcourt and Nicholson streets.
Natives from several different tribes: the Mattaponi, the Pamunkey and Cherokee came to the location because they had signed treaties with the royal governor; these native peoples primarily wanted to negotiate trade agreements with the residents of the city and the governor.
