Craft Doll Sized Party Balloons

Our faux balloons look like they are filled with helium
in this New Year's Party display. These are actually wired
to toothpicks underneath.
We decided to decorate our doll's banquet table with faux party balloons this year.
You do not need to use tuxedo bags for your centerpieces. If you don't have these, you could wrap a small box in decorative paper to look like a present. Then repeat the steps 3 and 4 below.
Your dolls are sure to love these faux party balloons displayed for any holiday celebration, not just New Year's Eve!
Make sure to collect the plastic eggs that have tiny holes in them for this craft. This is where you attach the wire that makes them look like they are filled with helium.

Supply List:
  • plastic Easter eggs with tiny holes (some have them, some do not)
  • spray paint in metallic colors: copper, gold, silver and a chalkboard black
  • Tuxedo party favor bags (from dollar store)
  • Styrofoam
  • toothpicks
  • chenille stems
  • newsprint
  • recycled egg carton (optional)
  • silver or gold Christmas tinsel garland
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. First you will need to spray paint your plastic Easter eggs if these are not in the colors that you wish your doll sized balloons to be. I used copper, gold, silver and also a chalkboard black spray paint to cover my eggs. Do this step outdoors on top of newsprint.
  2. Use long chenille stems to thread the egg onto a wooden toothpick. I also trimmed the tinsel down using a pair of scissors to make the wire less noticable and then threaded it through the tiny holes in the plastic egg.
  3. Then shave the Styrofoam to fit inside the tuxedo party favor bags. Insert the egg balloon picks  firmly down inside the foam inside the bag.
  4. Wrap a short piece of Christmas tinsel around the wires to make the faux balloons look like they are floating above the New Year center pieces.
Left, I painted some of my eggs with metallic copper spray paint. Center, here you can see that I used an old,
discarded egg carton to dry my faux balloons on. Right, I've wired the balloons and wrapped that wire
around toothpicks.

Left, close up view of toothpicks and wire. Center, tuxedo party favor bags for the New Year's Doll
display and foam inserts. Right, see inside the bag where the faux balloon picks are attached.

Left, I will wrap the wire stems with Christmas tinsel garland. Center, the faux balloon display is finished.
Right, our doll's banquet table is ready to decorate. Where is the food? We need some food for this party!
