DIY Christmas Countdown Calendar for Dolls

The finished result of our doll's Christmas countdown calendar.

A Christmas countdown calendar could be a way for your favorite dolls to keep track of the time they will need to wait for Santa to arrive on the 25th of December. Our version of this popular craft includes a snow cave and a recycled wooden ornament.

Supply List:
  • masking tape
  • white typing paper
  • white school glue
  • tiny wooden sleigh
  • cardboard
  • discarded masking tape roll
  • black permanent ink marker
  • decorative scrapbook paper
  • baker's foil wrap

Left, cardboard blocks wrapped in masking tape. Center fitting the blocks to the structure.
 Right, finished cardboard blocks.

Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. The blocks for this craft may be made in several ways: you can layer 1"x1" pieces of cardboard on top of each other until the shapes are exactly square or you could use small square boxes filled with tightly pressed tissues to make the blocks. Wooden blocks may also be used instead if you've got these on hand.
  2. After making your blocks, you will need to decoupage the sides with decorative scrapbook papers.
  3. Then number the sides using a permanent black ink marker. One block should have the following numbered sides: 0,1,2,6,7,8  and the other should be labeled with numbers: 0,1,2,3,4,5.
  4. Now make the snow cave using a empty discarded masking tape roll. I cut a small cardboard floor for my numbered blocks to fit neatly inside.
  5. Then I closed the backside of the old tape roll with cardboard and taped on legs so that the "cave" wouldn't roll.
  6. You can further shape your snow cave with bakers foil to give it dimension and character.
  7. After this, cover the entire snow cave with white glue and layers of white paper.
  8. Glue a little sleigh on top of the snow cave; ours was an ornament.
  9. Now your dolls are ready to countdown to Christmas! Display the 3-D calendar anywhere inside your doll's house; it should make a cute addition to your Christmas decor.
