Ancient Dolls of Japan: Mechanical Dolls

MECHANICAL DOLLS ( KARAKURI NINGYO): Acrobatic or musical. Sometimes called Takeda karakuri ningyo, after a famous singer of Japanese musical drama, Takeda Idzumonojo, of Osaka, who made use of musical dulls in his playing.
