The finished doll sized pencil case made from fabric, felt and ribbon. |
It's time for the dolls to go back-to-school again! Make this small, traditional sewing project for each of your dolls to carry their toothpick pencils in. It will tuck neatly in a doll backpack and/or locker.
Craft Supplies:
- scrap cotton fabric (3" x 5 1/4")
- ribbon 18"
- felt (1 square)
- needle and thread
- toothpicks
- markers
Step-by-Step Instructions:- Cut 3" x 5 1/4" piece of cotton fabric.
- Cut 3/4" x 4 1/2" felt pocket and 1 3/4" x 4 1/2 felt liner from felt.
- Fold over the edges of the cotton piece with iron.
- Stack all three pieces together using bast stitch. (see above position)
- Stitch neatly around the outside of the pencil case first, being careful to tuck the ironed cotton edges behind the felt pieces.
- Remove the basting stitches.
- Now straight stitch between toothpick "pencils" the pockets.
- Attach a ribbon on one side edge with needle and thread.
- Now you can roll up the pencil case from the end that has no ribbon and tie the bundle up with the ribbon on the opposite end.
