2 Arrow themed Valentine mailboxes

Finished traditional Valentine mailboxes
with arrows and hearts.

Two versions of this classic Valentine theme: a heart shaped Valentine mailbox with an arrow shot through the lid and a quiver with two arrows fastened to the outside of it.

Supply List for Arrow Through Heart:

  • pre-bought Valentine box with lid
  • scrapbook paper with arrow print
  • wooden skewer or toothpicks
  • red paper for the arrow head and red and white paper for ''feathers''
  • white school glue
  • Mod Podge

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Decoupage the small heart box with it's lid in a arrow themed scrap booking paper.
  2. Then cut the wooden skewer so that it has two ends, one with an arrow head and the other with tail feathers.
  3. The arrow is glued with one half on one side of the lid and the other half opposite on the other side of the lid. The arrow should look as though it is penetrating the heart shaped lid. Firmly glue each half in place.
  4. Cut an arrow head from red paper and glue this onto one end of the toothpick.
  5. Cut a ruffle from the same paper and glue this in a spiral pattern to the opposite end of the arrow. (see photographs below.)
  6. Paint exposed wood if you wish.

Little Verse For an Arrow Themed Valentine

"Oh! my pretty Valentine,
With an arrow through,
Does that pretty Valentine
Come from you?"

The Little Valentine
By Charlotte F. Babcock

A Little valentine am I,
And you would hear my tale, you said,
My little maid with sparkling eye
And dimpled cheeks so rosy red.

I’m decked in filmy golden lace,
Withe snow-white doves and golden hearts,
And cupid, with his winsome face,
Holding a quiver filled with darts.

With other valentines I dwelt,
And many a time suppressed a sigh,
And secret pangs of envy felt,
For some were fairer far than I.

One day a jolly little lad
Bought me, liked me the very best;
And oh, it made my heart so glad
To be preferred to all the rest!

He left me here for you to-day,
And he just rang this very bell,
And at this moment runs away,
And hurries to his home, pell-mell.

To you, dear little maiden mine,
I bear his message, heartfelt, true.
Only a little valentine,
And yet I had my work to do.

Left Valentine heart shaped box decoupaged.
Right, the doll sized mailbox with arrow through.

Supply List for Quiver Mailbox:

  • a small narrow cardboard tube with a lid (for quiver shaped mailbox)
  • toothpick 2 or 3
  • felt for the arrow head and "feathers"
  • twine
  • decorative paper (enough) to decoupage the tube and cap
  • white school glue
  • Mod Podge

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Decoupage the cardboard tube with it's lid in an arrow themed paper if you like.
  2. Craft arrows using a toothpicks and much the same way as I have described in the above craft, using felt for the arrow head and felt for the feathered half.
  3. Hot glue twine and arrows to the outside of the quiver so that these will not be misplaced from the mailbox.
You can cast a vote for either of these Valentine mailboxes in the Comments Box Below, if you'd like. It would be interesting to see if people/kids on the internet judge our doll's Valentine mailbox competition in the same way as the children judging them in our home.
