Sew a Cute, Vintage Bunny for Your Doll

The bunny pattern below was designed by Hazel H. Sample over one hundred years ago! It has been restored here for young students to sew for their dolls, include in their Easter baskets or just for a fun beginner sewing lesson.

Supply List:

  • scrap flannel or gingham
  • multiple embroidery floss colors
  • tiny buttons and lace trim

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Print and cut out the patterns leaving 1/4 inch seam allowance. Trace around the paper copy onto fabric scraps of your own choosing using a pencil or washable fabric marker.
  2. Cut two sides for each bunny you make.
  3. With right sides facing together, straight stitch around the bunny shape carefully and leave a small opening on one side of the bunny large enough to turn the fabric inside out and stuff with cotton batting.
  4. While stuffing, use a dull tipped toothpick to help shift the stuffing around on the inside of the bunny pillow. You the smaller, tight features such as the ears will be filled in properly.
  5. With either a whip stitch or an invisible stitch, close up the opening.
  6. Now embroider the bunnies facial features.
  7. Sew on buttons and other lace trimmings if you like.

Vintage bunny patterns come in three sizes, one for a doll,
one for you and another for a special friend too!
