The Penguin

Collect all pages-cleaned and sized to make a miniature
book for your dolls
.

Assemble a mini doll sized book: Right, is the Penguin's illustration and verse. Visitors can collect all the bird illustrations and verse from "Bird Children" to print and construct a small book of verse for their dolls. Simply drag each png. into a Word Document, print, cut out all of the images the same size and staple the pages together at the left edge. Squeeze out some white school glue along the stapled edge of the pages and attach a cardboard cover.

Said Penguin, pensively, one day:
"Come, fishie dear, come out and play,"
But fishie answered, in a fright:
"I've heard about your appetite."

THE DISCONTENTED PENGUIN

This Penguin I am going to tell you about was born just like all other little Penguins; he came out of a pale green shell. When he was very little his father and mother used to go to the sea and fetch fish for him to eat, but one fine morning his mother told him he was old enough to catch his own food.
"How can I ever get down to the water ? " he asked.
"Just walk down over the rocks like I do," said his mother, and she went down to show him how.
"Oh, no, that's a foolish, old-fashioned way," said the little Penguin. " I'm going to fly down like that birdie over there."
"No, no! A Penguin doesn't fly," protested the mamma bird, but before she could think what was happening her son had jumped in the air and spread his little flappers just as he had seen the beautiful Albatross do. Next minute poor baby Penguin was lying on the rocks below. He was not smiling. No indeed! For he had fallen heavily, just as you would fall if you tried to fly unless you had an airplane, and he had hurt one of his little feet badly. He had to stay in bed many days, and then, like a sensible bird, instead of trying to fly, he learned to walk down over the rocks as other good Penguins do. Henry Altemus Company.

How to Make a Paper Penguin Chain

Two important tips to remember: the longer the paper the more often the design repeats.
The thinner the paper, the easier it is to cut.

Directions:
  1. Measure the length and height of your template in order to determine how much paper you will need before folding it.
  2. Use and accordion fold to prepare the paper before cutting.
  3. Trace the design so that two sides touch opposite each other along the folds of the paper.
  4. Cut away the negative spaces around your design.

This is a picture of what your Penguin paper chain might look like.
