How to Make a Boneyard Brownie Display

Left, the doll's pumpkin brownies topped with cookie bones. Center, the gingerbread "boneyard"
made to display our doll's brownie treats for guests at the dollhouse. Right, the two crafts
combined together in a display.

Our doll's favorite pumpkin brownies are put on display for Halloween in this spooky gingerbread boneyard. Serve up this cute craft recipe on a side table or at a banquet, wherever your friends are gathering for a costume party; it's sure to be goulishously sweet with a hot drink!

Supply List for The Pumpkin Brownies:

  • paper mache pulp
  • cardboard
  • masking tape
  • Sculpey
  • chocolatey brown puff paint
  • orange and white acrylic paint
  • Mod Podge

Step-by-Step Instructions for the Pumpkin Brownies:

  1. Stack and glue together mini cut squares of cardboard for individual pumpkin brownie servings. Make sure that a set of six fit neatly inside your boneyard display. Give room for brownies to be a little bulky.
  2. Use masking tape to smooth out the edges.
  3. Prepare a very small amount of paper mache pulp to smear on the edges of the brownies to give these texture. You may use sandpaper alternatively if you do not have paper pulp. Let dry.
  4. Paint the brownies pumpkin orange.
  5. Glue on a faux 'candy' bone to the tops of each brownie. The bones should be shaped and baked from Sculpey. Follow the directions on the package.
  6. Use a deep brown puffy paint to squeeze out a chocolate looking topping.
  7. Seal with Mod Podge.

Supply List for The Gingerbread Boneyard Display:

  • tacky craft glue
  • flat wooden picks/sticks used with horderves (3 1/2")
  • a four inch plastic graveyard marker (sold in dollar stores)
  • Sienna and white acrylic paints
  • Mod Podge

Step-by-Step Instructions The Gingerbread Boneyard:

  1. Glue the flat wooden picks side by side two inches wide by 3 1/2 long, to construct the base for your boneyard grave display. Let dry and reinforce this 'platter' by gluing 3 supporting picks running the opposite direction across the bottom, evenly spaced out.
  2. Glue together the four sides of the picket fence separately before mounting these on top of the platform. Cut two long wooden picks to size for one side of the fence and glue on top of these shortened lengths with pointed tips, of equal size from the picks as you glue the picket fence together.
  3. Once you have the picket fence pieces dry and ready to mount on the wooden platflorm, glue the entire structure together with tacky craft glue and additional cut picks to reinforce behind the mounted picket fence pieces.
  4. Insert and glue in place the four inch grave marker.
  5. Paint the entire structure a gingerbread colored acrylic, highlight detains of skulls and bones with white paint. (icing)
  6. Seal with Mod Podge.
