"Colleen" A Doll from Ireland

Colleen has a new shaw, broach and carries a flower basket.

The printing on the side of the box she comes in reads:

"Attired in traditional dress representing the country of Ireland, Colleen is one in a series of collectible porcelain dolls from around the world.

It is said that to know the national culture of modern Ireland one must be aware of her folklore and folklorists. Tales passed down through the years about the "dullahan" who carried his head under his arm, the "phooka" or spirit-horse, and the Holy Grail are the legends of that tradition. Over one millian manuscript pages of fable, as told by their tellers, are housed in The Irish Folklore Commission in Dublin.

A country with over 9,000 years of culture and history, Ireland can boast of many celebrated artists. Prominent dramatists, novelists and poets - Samuel Beckett, George Bernard Shaw and William Butler Yeats - have received the Nobel Prize for Literature, and musical works composed by Turlough O'Carolan born in the 17th century, have survived through the centuries and are still appreciated today."
