DIY Charcuterie Boards for American Girl Doll Crafts

The olives rest inside a bottle cap to give an idea of scale here. Above is one of two charcuterie
boards we made for our 18" doll banquets on New Year's Eve.

Our dolls love to entertain and with these appetizers they will entertaining all night, especially on New Years Eve. That is the holiday our dolls have determined to be the best suited for the following creations featured above and below.

Left, Sculpey and Springerle cookie mold.
Right, molded grapes up-close.

Supply List:

  • small caps and/or bottle caps
  • Sculpey oven bake clay
  • toothpicks
  • acrylic paints
  • Mod Podge
  • large lid or bottom from a oatmeal can
  • Springerle cookie mold (optional)
  • glitter glues
  • hot glue and hot glue gun
  • white school glue
  • paper to cover the lids neatly

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1.  You will need to craft a large platter or faux carving board to display your doll's charcuterie board appetizers. I chose to cut the bottom off of a large oatmeal can to display our doll cheeses, fruits, and meats.
  2. I painted these trays black for a formal New Year's Eve celebration and decoupaged the outer edges with a deep purple paper.
  3. I also cut tiny dipping dishes from an egg carton and also used recycled bottle caps for tiny doll olives to cluster inside.
  4. I also molded the grapes from one of my springerle molds as seen in the photo above.
  5. The rest of the tiny horderves were sculpted by hand using Sculpey oven-back clay. After these cooled they were then glued directly onto the charcuterie trays/boards with hot glue. Otherwise, I'm relatively sure these tiny pieces would be lost in a short while if left loose.
  6. Then I used acrylic paints to color all of the appetizers before generously brushing on Mod Podge to preserve the surfaces.

Left, folded thin deli meats, pickles, and cheese slices. Center, hard sausages, crackers, ramekins
for dipping sauces. Right, sliced apple.

Left, here you can see the bottle cap used to display olives, sliced smoked cheeses and salami.
Right, grapes molded from a Springerle mold.
