Make a friendly fish Valentine mailbox...

Student doll sized fishy mailbox.
Any doll would appreciate this sweet, heart shaped, gold fish mailbox for a Valentine's Day party. It has cup cake liner for fins and a broad grin too!

 Supply List:

  • a pre-made, paper mache, heart shaped box with lid (2 inches)
  • scrap pink and white paper
  • a black marker (thin tip)
  • two cup cake liners
  • white school glue
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Trace around the heart shaped box on top of the paper you wish to cover it with using a soft pencil tip. We used hot pink paper for the fish body and we need to cover both the top and bottom of the box so we cut two heart shapes.
  2. Then we glued the shapes to the box. We also covered the sides with the same hot pink paper.
  3. Cut a long, narrow hole into the side of the box for cards if you wish. However, this type of Valentine mailbox has a lid that may be removed to add cards inside, so you needn't worry about cutting a hole for this purpose.
  4. Next we added fin details to the top of the lid using white typing paper.
  5. Our fishy tail and side fins are made from the ruffled edges of two cupcake liners, glued to the sides of the box.
  6. Then we used a black permanent marker to draw on the fish eyeball and more fin details.
Left, prefabricated heart box with lid made from cardboard. (purchased in advance of craft)
Center, a slot was cut for Valentines so that the lid could be displayed without opening the box.
Right, the friendly fish Valentine mailbox may also be displayed on it's side, with the fins pointed up.

eighteen inch doll.

Below are some dear little Valentine Verses written by children, seven years old, over 100 years ago...

Pretty Valentine,
Will you be mine?
***
This Valentine I send to you,
To tell you of my love so true.
***
Dearest little friend of mine
May I be your Valentine?
If you tell me that I may,
This will be a happy day.
***
This is a Valentine,
It comes from me;
If you like it, keep it,
For it is for thee.
