A German Needlepoint - Girl With Her Doll

Needlepoint of child with doll, not a Quaker design, not a sampler.

I just found this lovely old needlepoint at Wikipedia folks. I thought some of you might be interested in reproducing it yourselves. It was mislabeled as a "sampler" however, to be a sampler means that it needs an alphabet included with the design and more then one needlework stitch too. It certainly would be nice to work up a version of it into a "sampler."

"A Berlin work scene of a girl holding a doll in a garden is stitched with wool yarn on paper. The girl is wearing a green apron over a pink, and possibly white striped, skirt. White bloomers show at her ankles, with dainty black slippers on her feet. The bodice is blue with elbow length sleeves, and it hangs off of her shoulders. Her right hand is in her apron pocket and her left hand holds a doll is red and white dress. The scenery is filled with much greenery, several trees and some flowers. In the back there is also a bridge over water. The piece is in good condition. There are some areas of loss in the right, just above the bodice, the girl's left arm, pantaloons, and foot. Unstitched areas of the paper have discolored. B) A 3/4" wooden frame with a gold finish. The 1" mat is antique white.; This embroidered sampler, silk on linen, is a possible Quaker sampler. Flowers, stars, baskets, and heart motifs are commonly found on both Quaker and German samplers. While nothing is known about Zelpah Cox, the information written on the backing indicates it was framed in Rushville, Indiana, and once owned by Mrs. Ella Coffin of Carthage, Indiana, in 1924, so it is probable the sampler was made in Indiana. The sampler, featuring cross stitch, eyelet, and satin stitches, is unfinished and unsigned." included text description from Wikipedia

Above is a cross stitch alphabet for those of you who would like to recreate a sampler.
