Craft a Valentine ladies' purse mailbox

The finished decoupaged mailbox
 looks like a purse.

Not only does this purse shaped Valentine box look cute on a shelf in the doll's house, it will also look nice with a Spring or Summer dress fashion show. Hum...we'll need to think about that.

 Supply List:

  • recycled paper egg carton for parts
  • white glue
  • hot glue gun and hot glue
  • decorative scrapbooking paper
  • wire or chenille stem for purse handle
  • masking tape
  • scrap cardboard
  • newsprint
  • acrylic paint

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. On the lid of some paper egg cartons there are shaped windows that look like the lip of an old-fashioned purse. I cut and trimmed these for the opening of the purse shaped Valentine mailbox.
  2. Then I drew a bag like shape with four sides to fit this piece of molded cardboard and taped it to the lip of the parts.
  3. Use masking tape to create a finished surface ready for decoupage.
  4. Cover the surface with your choice of decorative paper.
  5. Paint the egg carton parts with a complimentary color.
  6. Bend a wire or chenille stem into a handle shape and thread it through either end of the purse and twisting it up to bend over it's self firmly in place.
  7. Paint the handle to match the egg carton parts.
  8. I also added keys and a tag and wired these to the handle of the purse.
  9. Lastly paste a paper lining to the inside of the purse if you prefer a finished look.

Tommy's Valentines

Tommy bought a valentine
For his friend, Miss Nell,
And in verse, so very sweet,
It his love did tell.

Also little Tommy bought
Another valentine,
But it did not speak of love,
Nor was it so fine.

It was got by Tom to send
To little Bertha Brown.
A pert young miss, who one day had
"Turned Master Tommy down."

When Tommy sent the valentines
The wrappers he did mix,
And that is how the little chap
Got himself in a fix.

For Bertha got the valentine
That he had meant for Nell,
And Nell received the other one,
Which of her faults did tell.

And when these pretty little maids
Saw Tommy the next day,
They tossed their heads up in the air,
And cut him, so they say.

"To cut him" meant to ignore him.
